The Registrar of Companies, Tamilnadu at Coimbatore has identified 5,766 companies in seven districts such as Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Dindigul and Tirupur as shell companies for not filing statutory returns for the last 2 years.

As per the directions of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs notices have been issued under section 248(1) of the Companies Act 2013 to 4,266 companies and 12,000 defaulting directors intimating them of the intention to strike their names from the RoC

RoC has sent the names and addresses of these companies to the I-T department, central excise and service tax department for verification of the status of these companies and their records

There are 25 RoCs functioning across the country. Maharashtra and TN are the only 2 states with 2 offices of RoCs

The registrar has stated that around 1,500 such companies have taken huge amounts as loans from banks and financial institutions without filing documents with the RoC
