Executive magistrates are designated under the code of criminal procedure and under the state's land revenue act. They are essentially delegates of the District Magistrate (collector/Deputy Commissioner). Apart from the quasi-judicial and administrative functions entrusted to them from time to time, since they have power to administer oath and examine persons and record evidence, a corollary function of attesting an affidavit can also be performed by them.
