Work from home for IT companies will be extended until 31st July, 2020 says Ravi Shankar Prasad in the midst of COVID-19 danger

In the midst of the coronavirus COVID-19 alert, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad announced on Tuesday that work from home for IT companies will be extended until 31 July, adding that 85 per cent of IT work is being done from home. Previously, work from home was expected to end on April 30. Prasad arranged a video-conference conversation with state IT ministers and officials.

The Minister also said that there were a lot of job relaxations given for work from home and IT Secretary, Communication Secretary, and Postal Secretary gave presentations to their departments citing specifications and demands from the State Departments of the Centre. Standards for work from home have been relaxed. "We will aspire that work from home should become a new norm," said Prasad.

Talking to the media via a video conference, Prasad said that Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi asked Bihar to create an app that would share the best strategies of all states to control the pandemic. "We have accepted this suggestion. I have asked the National E-Governance Division (NEGD) & National Informatics Centre (NIC) to prepare an app. Both NEGD and NIC have agreed to develop an app in three days," he quoted.

The Minister commended the Department for making the Arogya Setu app a success, adding that the app had to be rolled out. A suggestion was made at the meeting to connect the e-pass with the app and was decided upon, the Minister of Law said. All Aarogya Setu apps will be connected at the district level. "The Arogya Setu app has become popular as well," said the Minister. He praised the Postal Department for undertaking social services and digital services, such as digital payments, and wished that the Member States would use the vast network of our postal service in the region.

Prasad asked the state governments to view the pandemic as an opportunity and to plan for the next boom in the electronics manufacturing sector. He also said that the big opportunities in the electronic manufacturing sector are likely to soon open up for India.
