Voyeurism and Surveillance: Lawyer and three others booked for Bullying and Stalking Women

On Friday, 11th December, 2020, Puducherry Police were informed by a doctor that four men were harassing women living in a residential complex and among these four men, is an advocate who continuously stalks women.

The doctor who has filed the complaint, works as an Assistant Professor in a private Medical College in Puducherry. She said that the accused, Advocate Subramanian harasses, bullies, stalks and also threatens women.

The complainant informed the police that women residing in the complex lives with constant fear and insecurity as the president of the residential association, Sittaramane and the secretary, Anand, along with other men supported this intolerable behaviour instead of opposing.

Police said that three-fourth of the families staying in the complex has objected to the installed CCTV cameras in the lifts and terraces as it violates their privacy. The monitor of the CCTV cameras were kept in the flat of the legal advisor of the complex association where as it should be kept at a common area.

Police filed a case for violation of Section 294(b) (obscene acts & songs) and Section 354(c) (voyeurism) of Indian Penal Code, 1860 for further investigations.
