UNNAO CASE: APEX COURT ASKS DELHI HIGH COURT TO SET-UP TEMPORARY COURT AT AIIMS

Acting upon the request made by the Special Judge Dharmesh Sharma and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Supreme Court on Friday asked the Delhi High Court and concerned authorities to set up a temporary court at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi for conducting in-camera proceedings & recording the statement of Unnao Rape case victim in the recently occurred road accident case.

Investigation conducted by the CBI in the road accident case could not be completed within the stipulated time period granted by the Supreme Court because the medical condition of the victim did not allow her to appear and record her statement before the Court.

A bench comprising of Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose also granted further time of two weeks to CBI for completing the investigation and filing charge-sheet in road accident case, in which the victim was critically injured.

The Unnao Rape Case victim is presently undergoing treatment in AIIMS, Delhi after sustaining major injuries in a fatal road accident in July this year wherein her lawyer was also injured and two of her aunts had passed away.

The Rape Survivor was airlifted from King George’s Medical University, Lucknow to AIIMS, Delhi for better treatment.

The SC had also directed the Uttar Pradesh State Government to provide Rs. 25 Lakhs as interim compensation to the rape victim and Rs 5 Lakhs to her lawyer, who is also critical and presently undergoing treatment.
