Tehseen Poonawalla files a plea in SC against 10% EWS quota

A plea challenging the Union Government's decision to grant 10% reservation to economically weaker people of the general category in jobs and education was filed in the Supreme Court by Political activist Tehseen Poonawalla

The petition challenging the constitutional amendment, which laid the way for grant of reservation to EWS candidates of general category—sought repressing of the law on the ground that backwardness for the purpose of reservation cannot be defined by economic status alone.

The petition says that the reservation violates the 50% ceiling limit fixed by the SC for reservation. It also challenges the income criteria laid down by the Government to determine EWS quota.

the PIL is likely to come up for hearing in the next few days.
