Supreme Court Revises its Roster System for Case Allocation

In the wake of the recent allegations made by the SC judges on allocation of cases, a new subject-wise Roster system has been introduced.

The new Roster system will come into effect from February 5. Further, the new system will determine the type of cases that will be listed before the SC benches headed by the 12 senior-most judges, including Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and Justices J Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan Lokur, Kurian Joseph, AK Sikri, SA Bobde, RK Agrawal, NV Ramana, Arun Mishra, AK Goel and Rohinton Nariman.

As per the new roster system, the CJI will hear all fresh Public Interest Litigation (PILs) and Letter Petitions filed in the Supreme Court. Besides this, the CJI will hear matters related to social justice, elections, contempt of court, and criminal matters, to name a few.

Other judges will hear matters related to land acquisition, labour, compensation, consumer protection, mortgage, personal law, family law, service matters, company matters etc.
