SUPREME COURT ASKS FOR AN EXPLANATION FROM RAHUL GANDHI REGARDING CONTEMPT CHARGES

Rahul Gandhi's affidavit had earlier stated that he has falsely quoted Supreme Court as  “rhetorical flourish in the heat of political campaigning”. Such statement was passed before seeing the Court's order and analyzing the same. It was pointed out by Gandhi's advocate, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, that the Court had only asked for explanation from Rahul and no notice was issued in his name. The Supreme Court bench had issued contempt notice during the hearing. The contempt petition is scheduled to be heard with the review of Rafale verdict.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi has again expressed his apology for wrongly quoting the Apex Court. He has expressed this in a reply on the notice issued to him in plea of Meenakshi Lekhi.

On April 29, Congress President said that the legal process was being abused by Bharatiya Janata Party with a purpose to “gag” him from raising the Rafale issue. He pleaded before the Apex Court that the contempt petition be dismissed and fine be imposed on the petitioner. He is excused from personally appearing before the Court but he cannot escape the explanation as to why he should not be held guilty for contempt as he had accepted that the slogan “chowkidar chor hai" attacked PM Narendra Modi.
