SC rejects plea seeking ban on Rajinikanth-starrer Kaala

The Supreme Court today rejected a plea seeking a ban on the release of Rajinikanth-starrer movie ‘Kaala’ which is scheduled to hit theatres on June 7.

The plea was filed by KS Rajashekaran, who sought an injunction against the movie's release claiming that his copyright work, including story scenes and songs were used by the producer without his prior permission.

A vacation bench of Justices AK Goel and Ashok Bhushan, however, refused to entertain the plea.

“You want an injunction against the release of the movie. Everybody is waiting for the film to be released,” the bench told the lawyer appearing for the petitioner.

The petitioner claimed that his copyright work was used by the producer of ‘Kaala’ without his prior permission. Rajashekaran approached the SC challenging the May 16 order of the Madras High Court which has listed the matter for further hearing on June 16.
