SC questions legality of parliamentarians fixing their own salary

New Delhi :While listening to petition filed by NGO Lok Prahari on the issue of MPs fixing their own pay, the SC  bench led b y Justice J Chamleshwar and Justice Kishan Kaul observed that centre has taken more than 10 years to form a body that can determine the salary of the parliamentarians.

The court said it can intervene in the matter,the argument of this being outside their purview not withstanding.Senior advocate Ajit Sinha said the centre is discussing the subject and asked for two weeks time to convey centre's stand in the matter.

The bench said it will how justified is bestowing of pension and perks like unlimited free train travel to former MPs.The court was adjourned.
