SC finalizes RV Raveendran for Hadiya case

The Supreme Court bench comprising CJI Khekar and Justice DY Chandrachud directed NIA investigation in the Hadiya case to find out whether the case is isolated or involves a larger conspiracy, under the SC Judge Justice RV Raveendran.

In Hadiya case, the Kerala High Court on 25 May 2017, declared the marriage of a 24 years old Hindu woman with a Muslim as “null” and “void” after her father’s claiming that his daughter was forcibly converted to Islam at the behest of the Islamic State. The Court ordered the girl to return to her parents and called the marriage a ‘Sham’ on the grounds that the marriage was conducted without the knowledge or consent of bride’s parents.

In the last hearing, the court directed the police to conduct a detailed probe and share information with NIA into the suspected forced conversion of a Hindu Woman by groups involved in ISIS activities.

In Today’s Hearing, Additional Solicitor General Maninder Singh that Hadiya’s conversion and marriage are not an isolated issue. He cited another case and said the organization involved in both the cases was the same.

So, the Supreme Court proposed the name of Justice KS Radhakrishnan, after Lawyers representing  Shafin, Kapil Sibal and Indira Jaising, appealed the bench for an involvement of a retd. Non-keralite judge for supervision. Later, the Court finalized Justice RV Raveendran for the case.
