Parents in Delhi-NCR move SC against CBSE’s decision to hold the remainder of boardexaminations of Class XII in July

Concerned about the safety of their wards and other students due to COVID-19, a group of parents belonging from Delhi-NCR have approached the Supreme Court against the CBSE notification seeking to carry out the remainder of Class XII board examinations in July.

CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) through a Notification dated 18th May announced that the further remaining examination of the CBSE Board (class XII) will be undertaken between 1st and 15th July.

The plea which is submitted by advocate Rishi Malhotra, contended that many prominent educational universities and colleges, including Delhi University and IITs, had agreed not to carry out any examination and similarly CBSE  be also directed to do the same. He said other state boards such as Chhattisgarh State Board have chosen not to hold any exams to protect the students from being exposed to the coronavirus.

The petition states, “CBSE’s notification for holding of the remaining examination is discriminatory and arbitrary and that too in the month of July wherein as per the AIIMS data, the said COVID-19 pandemic would be at its peak”.

The petition also highlights the fact that during the month of July when CBSE plans to hold examinations, the temperatures can reach up to 45 degree Celsius and adding the risk of an infectious disease will be a nightmare for the students to even sit in the examination hall wearing gloves and masks for 3 hours.

CBSE in its various other schools out of Delhi-NCR had cancelled the examinations and marked the students in accordance with their internal assessment.
