Pakistan court stays house arrest of JUD Chief Hafiz Saeed

JUD Chief Hafiz Saeed today received relief from The Lahore High Court (LHC) which directed the federal and Punjab governments not to arrest or put him under house arrest until further orders.

This order was given on the application moved in the court by Saeed on Jan 23 , arguing that the government under alleged pressure from the United States and India, wanted to arrest him. The court had then directed the governments not to arrest him, and ordered them to submit their replies regarding the petitioner's allegations.

The Centre and provinicial governments, however, failed to submit their replies, and in today's hearing requested the court for more time to do so.The court expressed its strong displeasure over the failure of the governments to submit their replies and asked the counsel appearing for the governments to submit their replies by April 4.
