NARENDRA MODI AND AMIT SHAH GIVEN CLEAN CHIT FOR ALLEGATIONS OF VIOLATING THE MODEL CODE OF CONDUCT BY ELECTION COMMISSION OF INDIA

The Apex Court had given a direction to the Election Commission of India to decide on the complaints which were filed against Narendra Modi and Amit Shah by Congress MP from Silchar Sushmita Dev. The decisions had to be made before May 6.

The third complaint was disposed of by the ECI on May 2, leaving the rest (8 in number) still undecided. The third complaint was dismissed holding that Narendra Modi has not, in any sense, violated the Model Code of Conduct while delivering a speech in Barmer, Rajasthan and hence he was given a clean chit. The statement for which he was alleged to have violated the Model Code of Conduct was as follows:

"Every other day they used to say 'we have nuclear button, we have nuclear button'. What do we have then? Have we kept it for Diwali?"

Amit Shah had delivered a speech in Nagpue wherein he passed a comment on Wayand that "Rahul Gandhi is contesting in such a place where it is impossible to say when a procession is taken out, whether it is a procession in India or Pakistan." Election Commission of India has observed that Shah's conduct was very much within the limits and hence there was no violation of the Model Code of Conduct on his part as well.
