Liquor bottles may come with larger statuary signs against alcoholic driving

In the joint mission of reducing death tolls of alcoholic driving in India and to educate people about the perilous consequences of drunken driving, liquor bottles in India may soon come with unusually big and radiant warning signs against liquor consumptions during or before driving.

In a Public Interest litigation (PIL) charged by Prince Singhal, Road safety expert, activist and creator of Community against drunken driving (CADD) regarding the attachment of more direct and lucid warning signs on liquor bottles against drunken driving on all the Indian and Foreign alcohol brands made in India. The court lately conducted FSSAI (Food Safety Standard Authority of India) under the Ministry of Health and Family welfare to put light on the appeal filed by the NGO.

The Food Safety Standard Authority of India (FSSAI), which is ensuring the quality standards of alcoholic beverages in India, is also researching about the International ideology regarding statuary warning signs against drunk driving after the court’s order, an official report. The court which heard the plea on May 18, declined to offer headings to extend the caution signs and said it was in the hands of policy makers. However, it proposed for FASSI, to consider the appeal to as a recommendation and take a close look on the matter.

Singhal stated that upwards of 1,46,000 deaths caused in the nation by lethal road mishaps every year, of which nearly 1,00,000 people are the victims of drunk driving and it is accountable for over 72% deaths in road accidents.

Nations that have taken the matter seriously and modified their statuary signs for alcoholic driving have reduced the death tolls of road accidents which include USA, Kenya, South Africa, Thailand, Zimbabwe, Taiwan, Mexico, Turkey and Other Nations, Singhal claimed.
