Lahore HC asks Pak govt to decide in 30 days on Indian Woman's plea for Pakistani Citizenship

Islamabad: In something which happens in movies only is playing out in the real life also. An Indian woman supposedly married who went to Pakistan as part of Pilgrim group eloped with a Pakistani man , converted to Islam and married a Lahore-based man. Later she moved the Lahore High court for citizenship and a visa extension. On her plea the Lahore high court directed the Pak govt. to decide within 30 days the woman's Kiran Bala, alias Amna Bibi plea. She is originally from Hoshiarpur, a town in India's Punjab.

The woman has claimed that she came to Pakistan out of her love for the Pakistani man. Since her family would not have allowed her to visit, she visited Pakistan as a pilgrim. She says she is not married and has no kids. On the contrary the lady( her motherinlaw) in Hoshiarpur  claimed that she has three children and she said she cannot understand , how mother of three can leave her children.

The Pak interior ministry has to take a call on whether she is eligible for the six-month extension as per her application. As per local law, she can stay in Pakistan for a month and if given six month extension, she could be eligible for grant of citizenship. However treaty between India and Pakistan provides each other citizen’s right of citizenship after seven years. To reach that stage the lady will have to renew her visa every six months.
