New Delhi: Karti Chidambram, son of former Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambram today received relief from a Delhi court which today granted him interim protection from arrest till May 2.Karti has two cases filed against him, one by the CBI and the other by Enforcement Directorate. Both pertain to Aircel-Maxis case arising out of allegations of use of influence for getting due permissions.
The Special Judge O P Saini gave bail after the counsels for both the ED and CBI sought time to argue on Karti's application seeking anticipatory bail. They asked the court to give a new date in the matter. Karti had earlier been granted bail till today by the court in the hearing held on March 24.
Cases were lodged against Karti by CBI and ED in 2011 and 2012 respectively. The case relates to grant of approval of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to M/S Global Communication Holding Services Ltd for investment in Aircel. It is alleged that Karti used his further's influence to get the clearance and for this he was given monetary benefits.
