Judicial Officers Shall Not Use Mobile Phones or Social Media During the Court Hours : Karnataka High Court

The Registrar (Vigilance) of the Karnataka High court has issued a circular barring judicial officers from using cell phones or any other device while sitting on the dais. The Allahabad High Court in 2010, had also issued a similar circular by which it banned the use of mobile phones in subordinate court by the Presiding Officers.

The circular also restricts them from using social media during court hours, either for official communication or any personal work. The Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka issued this circular. It reads:

"All the judicial officers in the state are hereby directed not to use Mobile Phones in any manner while sitting on dais and not to use any social media such as Whatsapp, Skype, Facebook etc., during the court hours for personal or any official communication. Any lapse will be viewed seriously"

Karnataka High Court in October 2017, banned the use of mobile phone by the staff members during the office hours. A circular was issued by the acting Chief Justice H G Ramesh on October 30 stating that use of mobile phones for personal purpose "has resulted in wastage of precious working time, and has also caused disturbance and distraction to other staff members".
