Los Angeles: Another sexual harassment case has been filed against Harvey Weinstein. This time he has been sued by actress Ashley Judd who has alleged that one time influential film producer damaged her movie career after she refused his sexual advances.

According to the civil lawsuit which she has filed in a court in Los Angeles, she has accused Weinstein of making her lose a role in 1998 movie “The Lord of the Rings” by making “baseless smears” against her. She said he did it out of personal vendetta as she refused to grant him sexual favours which he asked her when he met her at a hotel for supposedly work issue about an year ago.

The suit for which amount is not yet disclosed, alleges that Weinstein used his influence to damage her career.

A representative for Weinstein denied the allegation and said in a statement that he had “neither defamed Ms Judd nor ever interfered with Ms Judd’s career.”The statement added that Weinstein “championed” Judd’s work and “repeatedly approved her casting for two of his movies” - “Frida” in 2002 starring Salma Hayek, and “Crossing Over” with Harrison Ford in 2009. It also said he had “fought for Ms Judd as his first choice for a lead role in “Good Will Hunting.”

However the statement was silent on Judd’s allegations that she was sexually harassed by Weinstein.

In October 2017 Judd, was the first woman to come out in the open and levy an allegation of sexual misconduct against Weinstein. This prompted several other women to come forward and levy charge of sexual misconduct against him. It took the shape of a movement, which soon came to be termed as me too moment. Since then Harvey has been accused of sexual harassment by as many as 70 women.

However, he has denied having non-consensual sex with anyone.

The actress issued a statement as per which any damages that she may win will be donated to the cause of providing legal redress to those who suffer sexual harassment at work place.
