Delhi HC grants relief from arrest to P Chidambaram in INX Media case

The Delhi HC today granted interim protection from arrest till July 3 to former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram in connection with the INX Media case.

A single judge bench of the High Court led by Justice AK Pathak restrained the agency from arresting Chidambaram till July 3. The court further issued a notice seeking the response of the CBI to the anticipatory bail plea within two weeks.

The HC decision came after Chidambaram filed an anticipatory bail application against the summon that was issued to him by the CBI, asking him to join the investigation after his role came under scanner – in issuing the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval to INX Media for receiving overseas funds amounting to Rs 305 crore in 2007, when Chidambaram held office as Minister of Finance.

The court while granting relief from arrest to Chidambaram also directed the former finance minister to cooperate in the CBI probe.
