Delhi Cabinet approves over Rs 40 cr to give Insurance to Lawyers

Law minister, Kailash Gahlot on Friday, 31st October, 2020, had stated that, the Delhi Cabinet has approved the application of over Rs 40 crore for providing medical insurance of Rs 5 lacs and term insurance of Rs 10 lacs to all the advocates who are residing in Delhi. All the advocates who are residing in Delhi will be insured under CM Advocates Welfare Scheme.

Law minister had posted a tweet by stating that Chief Minister of Delhi last year had announced a total budget of Rs 50 crore for allocation under CM Advocates Welfare Scheme, and this year on October 29th, 2020, Delhi Cabinet has authorized spending of more than 40.60 Cr for the procurement of Life Insurance & Mediclaim Policies.

Chief Minister of Delhi, in last year had constituted a 13 member committee which was headed by the Supreme Court Bar Association president Rakesh Kumar Khanna, for implementing new ways on which funds can be allocated to the advocates.

According to the Committee, Rs 5 lacs of medical insurance and Rs 10 lacs of life insurance must be allocated to each lawyer residing in Delhi. E-libraries and crèche facilities should also be set up through this fund.
