Coronavirus Lockdown to be extended till May 3

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Tuesday i.e. 14thApril 2020, on the last day of the coronavirus lockdown. In his address, PM said that the national lockdown would be extended until 3rdMay 2020. He asked to take special care of the elderly especially those who have chronic diseaseand keep them safe from Coronavirus.
Here is a look at the highlights from the speech of the Prime Minister—

·       In view of all the suggestions, it was decided that the lockdown would be extended until 3 May. We've got to be discipline like we've been so far in this time.

·       Till April 20, all districts, localities, states will be closely monitored, as to how strictly they are implementing norms. States that do not allow hotspots to increase, may be allowed certain essential activities to restart but under certain conditions.

·       We are still working really quickly on the Health Infrastructure Fund. In January, the nation had only one Coronavirus research centre but now there are more than 220 laboratories operating on this issue.

·       Download the Arogya Setu Mobile App to help prevent the spread of corona infection. Inspire others to download the app as well.

·       On Wednesday i.e. 15th April 2020, the government will come out of extensive guidelines on the lockdown.

·       I know you've had a lot of difficulties;some people have had trouble with food. Others have faced commuting issues. Though some of them stayed away from their homes and friends.

·       Even when India did not have a single corona patient, India started screening passengers from the affected countries of Covid-19.

·       If India had not followed a comprehensive, systemic approach, it had not taken a swift decision, India's situation would have been different. However, the findings and tests of the last few days have shown that the direction we have taken is the right one.

·       India has gainedthe advantages of social distancing and lockdown. We have paid economic costs for it. Yet it's nothing compared to the loss of the Indians lives.

·       People who earn every day and fulfil their needs are also my community. Reducing their issues is one of my priorities.

Prior to his speech, the Prime Minister held consultations with Chief Ministers via videoconferencing, during which discussions were held on the need to expand the lockdown further, taking into account the the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister said that there seems to be a majority among the States on the extension of the lockdown for another two weeks. He stressed that the government's slogan earlier was 'Jaan Hai to Jahaan Hai,' but now it's 'Jaan Bhi Jahaan Bhi.'
