Chhota Rajan convicted for murder of journalist J Dey, journalist Jigna Vora let off

Mumbai: A Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act (MCOCA) court  on Wednesday convicted gangster Chhota Rajan for the murder of journalist J Dey but  former journalist Jigna Vora and another accused in the case were acquitted for lack of evidence. Eight others were also convicted in the case.

Besides Rajan, special MCOCA court judge Sameer Adkar convicted eight others in the case. The court acquitted Vora and Paulson Joseph, as it said prosecution failed to prove their involvement beyond doubt.

Gangster Rajan, who was deported to India after his arrest in Indonesia in October 25,2015 is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi.

J Dey , a crime journalist was shot and killed while he was on way to his home in Powai ,Mumbai on June 11, 2011 .The case was handed over to CBI, which framed charges in 2016.The reported reason for killing Dey was that Rajan was highly upset with the articles written by Dey on him and wanted  to stop Dey from writing a book on him where he was described as "chindi" or petty criminal.

The case was handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation which framed charges against Chhota Rajan in the case in 2016.It was alleged that Jigna Vora instigated Rajan against Dey whose used hired killers to shoot Dey.
