BREAKING: RAHUL GANDHI GIVES CLARIFICATION FOR HIS REMARK 'CHOWKIDAR CHOR HAI' ON PM NARENDRA MODI

Supreme Court on April 15 had clarified categorically that there was no instance for the Court to observe that "chowkidar Narendra Modi chor hain". Such an attribution was made by Congress President Rahul Gandhi. The Apex Court has termed such an observation as 'contemptuous'.

Gandhi had filed an affidavit to respond to the Court's order. In his affidavit, he mentioned that the statement was made by him in the heat of campaigning for elections and had no intention to lower the Supreme Court's dignity. But, his this one statement has been misused by his opponents.

BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi filed a petition in which she sought criminal contempt action against him for his remarks. She has alleged that Gandhi has made personal remarks to the Apex Court and thereby tried to create prejudice. Rahul Gandhi was asked to explain himself today, i.e., April 22. The hearing is scheduled on April 23, Tuesday.

Another allegation made by Mr. Gandhi was that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also one of the 'misusers' of his statement in the Rafale jet deal case so that clean chit be given to the government.

Supreme Court bench, which was headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi, decided that the criminal contempt petition filed by Lekhi be considered to attribute some observations that were not in the Rafale judgment.

The whole controversy is in relation to the Rafale. India and France had mutually agreed to procure the jets. The delivery will most expectedly begin in September 2019.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi expressed regret in the Supreme Court on Monday over his remarks in connection with the Rafale judgment which the apex court had said was "incorrectly attributed" to it.
