Breaking: BJP Leader Swami Chinmayanand Arrested by SIT in Rape Case


In a major development in the Rape case of a Law student hailing from UP’s Shahjahanpur; BJP Leader Swami Chinmayanand has been arrested today by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).


As per reports, Chinmayanand was arrested from his Saharanpur Ashram and was taken to a nearby govt. hospital for medical examination. Heavy police force including members of the SIT was present all along.


The former BJP MP has been charged with sections 376C (Sexual Intercourse by person in authority), 342 (wrongful confinment), 354D (Stalking) and 506 (Criminal Intimidation) under the Indian Penal Code, 1860.


The father of the victim is pressing the SIT to also charge Swami Chinmayand with section 376 along with the provisions of destroying evidence while being in authority.


The victim and her father have provided the SIT with copies of video recordings made by the victim through a hidden camera against Swami Chinmayanand. The victim has accused that the BJP Leader of first recording her video while she was taking a bath and then using that video for blackmailing and raping her.


Swami Chinmayanand, who also served as a Union Minister in BJP governments in the past, was accused by the Law Student of committing rape upon her and physically exploiting her for one year. The victim was pursuing LLM from a college whose director is Chinmayanand.


The girl had posted a live video on facebook while leveling allegations of sexual harassment against Chinmayanad which went viral on social media and thereafter she had gone missing from her hostel room. The victim was found after two days in Rajasthan and was brought back safely to her home in Shahjahanpur, UP.


The Apex Court took suo-moto cognizance of the matter and also constituted an SIT to investigate into the allegations. The Court had ordered to shift the victim to another college so as to enable her to continue with her studies.


Recently, the girl had filed a written complaint of Rape with the Delhi Police on September 5 stating that the UP Police was deliberately not arresting Chinmayand despite the fact that she told the investigators about the rape. The Complaint was registered by Delhi Police at Lodhi Road Police Station and was transferred to Shahjahanpur Police for further action.

The statement of the girl under section 164 Cr.P.C was also recorded before the Judicial Magistrate Geetika Singh where the girl stood by her earlier statement and reiterated her allegations of rape.
