Advocates Boycott Chief Justice And Collegium Judges of Orissa High Court Alleging 'Illegal Recommendations'

Not satisfying with the recommendations made by the Orissa High Court collegium for judges appointment, the Orissa High Court Advocates Association on Monday, boycotted the courts of CJ and 2 other collegium judges, contending that they are not regular practitioners at the High Court. The Association to continue the boycott till June 26.

Association also sought to meet the Governor of Orissa, Chief Justice of India, Union Law Minister and the Prime Minister to request that the "illegal recommendations" will not be accepted.

On May 16, Association President Senior Advocate Gopal Krushna Mohanty met the CJ and the 2 other Collegium judges to express their dissapproval of the proposal. The Chief Justice informed that the recommended persons met the eligibility criteria, and had sufficient appearances and filings in Court.

The Association however disagreed with the justification offered by the CJ and decided that advocates will abstain from appearing in the courts of CJ and two collegium judges.
