AADHAAR ORDINANCE: PETITIONERS ASKED BY SUPREME COURT TO MOVE TO HIGH COURT FIRST

President Ram Nath Kovind had given his assent to the Aadhaar Ordinance allowing the card be voluntarily used as ID proof for obtaining mobile SIM cards and opening bank accounts.

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appeared for the petitioners and told the Court that this is a matter attracting national importance as it would have a pan-India effect. Thus Supreme Court must decide the issue.

Supreme Court bench comprising of Justices S A Bobde and S A Nazeer opined they will not express their view on the matter unless the High Court has a say on it.

Thus, the plea which challenged the Aadhaar Ordinance was refused to be entertained and the petitioners were asked to approach the high court first with its grievances.
