'Approaching Court For A Moot Court Competition Is A Bit Too Much', Delhi HC Denies Plea Seeking Transparency in NLU-D's Moot Court Competition

A petition was filed at Delhi High Court by the students of Utkal University, Bhubaneswar asking for a direction to release marks which were scored by the petitioners in a Moot Court Competition conducted by National Law University, Delhi. According to the petitioners, they were at first selected for the oral round but later they were informed that they were not shortlisted for the final round because of technical/human error.

The petitioners also stated that although they had asked for the reasons of their disqualifications but no reply came from the respondent’s side. The only reason which had come from the respondent’s side was that there was some technical/human error due to which the petitioners were not shortlisted. Petitioners also requested to disclose the marks but still, the organising committee did not bother to reply to their request.

The petitioners also stated that they should be allowed to participate in the oral round as they had acted in a responsible manner and there was no error on behalf of the petitioners and they had also submitted the memorial in the stipulated time given to them by the organisation. Petitioners also have the right to know the marks scored by them in the memorial. According to the petitioners, non-disclosure of marks clearly proves that the error on the part of the respondents were not genuine.

Justice Jayant Nath was hearing the plea and has rejected the same by stating that the petitioners were not personally prejudiced and they had no reason to approach the court for a defeat in a moot court competition.
