About “C.O.V.I.D.: Call Out Violence in times of Distress”:And WHO CAN ATTEND : 


In the last few weeks there has been a noticeable spike in complaints of violence as an increasing number of individuals are reaching out to respective government or other authorities requesting for help and protection from perpetrators of violence. Authorities have found it increasingly difficult to deal with such a sudden spike and have adopted various kinds of means to ensure protection and further prevention from such violence. Many facing such violence are also not speaking about the same for various reasons.

C.O.V.I.D.” will be specifically focusing on increase in violence against children, women, elderly or anyone else at home in times of this lockdown which may be of a physical nature, mental, emotional or sexual. It will cover the background of such violence and discuss ways in which it could be dealt with better. It will also look at the following:

Sana Hakim (Advocate – High Court, Litigation Expert, External Member)

Sana Hakim holds an LL.B. Degree from the prestigious Government Law College, Mumbai and a Masters of Law Degree from the Mumbai University. She specialises in family and criminal laws especially laws related to crime against women such as sexual harassment, domestic violence etc. She has several years of experience in practising in the Bombay High Court, Sessions Court, Family Court and various Magistrate Courts around Mumbai and Thane, in the field of family law and criminal law.

Apart from the above, more specifically pertaining to the prevention of sexual harassment at workplace, she has also conducted several talks, lectures and interactions with management of several organizations as well as complainants / victims, played an active role in conducting of inquiry in various cases and facilitated filing of criminal complaints, F.I.R (if required) and briefing and counselling on legal consequences of filing false complaints and prevention thereof. She is also visiting faculty in a Government aided Law College since 4 years and teaches the degree as well as Diploma courses, including subjects like Constitution of India, Indian Penal Code, Legal Language, Trademarks and Jurisprudence. She has conducted 300+ trainings on this subject.

Ms. Pallavi Poswal completed her Bachelors in Arts in 2003 from Panjab University and her Masters in Psychology in 2005 from the same university. She majored in Child Psychology. In the past, she has worked with Physiotherapists and Speech therapists to help differently abled children with borderline learning abilities to train them so that they are able to carry out their daily routine & basic activities independently. Her rich background of working with children enables her to be sensitive and understand delicate scenarios with great ease. It enables her to have the skill of understanding psyche and the finer nuances related to human behavior.

With POSH at Work, she assists the Firm in providing services related to the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. In this regard, she conducts sessions in various organizations to create employee awareness and to train managers about their roles and responsibilities in the prevention and redressal of sexual harassment at workplace. She also conducts training programs for internal committee members. She has conducted 50+ sessions so far.

She has also been working as an external member and has supported various organizations by being a part of several conciliation / inquiries related to complaints of sexual harassment at workplace. She has conducted 20+ inquiries / conciliations.

As a psychologist, while she is sensitive and objective in her approach of handling complaints of sexual harassment, as part of POSH at Work, she is also able to apply the legal knowledge and skills to handle complaints of this nature as per requirements of law. She keeps herself regularly updated on case laws from various Indian courts, news, scenarios and other updates on this law to be able to deal with challenges effectively.
