NOTICE: Launching of Helpline 1888 Date: 06.07.2017

In the process of taking further the concept of providing easy “access to justice”, a four digit Helpline No. 1888 has been procured by the Delhi High Court from the Ministry of Communications, Government of India, Delhi.

The aforesaid Helpline 1888 is proposed to be used over a period of time for multifunctional information dispensation, which may include information pertaining to the listing and filing of cases, information to the parties, after verification, of their cases, functional facilities available to the litigants and advocates within the High Court premises, information with respect to legal aid, arbitration and other connected matters.

To begin with, the Helpline facility is proposed to be used for providing wheel chair assistance to differently–abled litigants to traverse the passage into and through the High Court Building, for which facility they can make advance reservation by way of making a call or sending an SMS on the Helpline. In addition, they have also been provided the e-mail facility for making the reservation for the wheel chair.

The process finalized in consultation with the network operator Airtel is as follows:

(a) The caller shall make a call on the Helpline 1888, which is connected to the mobile telephone provided to the designated officer who shall receive the call and after noting the requirement, respond on telephone or by way of SMS on the facility arranged for the caller. He shall simultaneously make the arrangement on the ground at the possible points to receive the litigant at the gate for his movement into the High Court.

(b) In case of any problem with respect to the connectivity with such designated officer on his mobile, two standby officers have also been designated who shall have the facility of receipt of the call from Helpline 1888 and the subsequent process of making the arrangement.

        After detailed discussions with the operator Airtel, it has further decided that for the present the Helpline facility 1888 will be operatable only through calls made by the Airtel subscribers. The other telephone operators like Vodafone, Idea, Aircel, BSNL, MTNL, Reliance etc. are also being coordinated for connectivity of Helpline 1888 through their network. For the present, for the non Airtel users, the calls are to be received at the High Court exchange No.43010101, where the operator shall forward the calls to the designated officer for making the arrangements and also for responding to the caller.
