Copper maker Vedanta Ltd. has filed an application before the Supreme Court for consent to re-open its plant in Tamil Nadu - which has been shut for infringement of environmental laws - saying that it needed to assist the country with free creation of clinical oxygen for COVID patients.

Senior Advocate Harish Salve, showing up for Vedanta, referenced the matter before Chief Justice of India SA Bobde.

Salve said that if consent is granted, Vedanta will want to begin the productionn within 5-6 days, which will help in saving the lives of numerous individuals.

The Central Government upheld the request of Vedanta. Specialist General of India Tushar Mehta said that the nation is in desperate need of oxygen and remarked that "Allow Vedanta to make it operational just to make oxygen for wellbeing purposes".

Senior Advocate CS Vaidyanathan, showing up for the Tamil Nadu Government, said that he was in receipt of the application and asked time until one week from now. 

Further, the Solicitor general stated that “Living souls are more significant right now than ecological contemplations”. 

In December a year ago, the Supreme Court (bench drove by Justice RF Nariman) had dismissed the interim supplication made by the Vedanta for permitting it to re-open the arrangement. A subsequent application made by the organization with a similar interest was likewise dismissed by the Supreme Court in January this year.
