Supreme Court is hearing a matter relating to Coal Block Allocation to private companies and seeking a Court Monitored Investigation into said allocations by CBI or an SIT.

ASG Aishwarya Bhati for ED: we’ve filed an IA.

Bench- to relieve one applicant ?

ASG: that’s an independent IA, we’ve filed for more officers 4 joint director level officers of ED, 3 IO level officers.

Bhushan- reason that this court asked for a list was cos of fear of govt influencing the investigation. Court has to ask ED why investigations aren’t complete

CJI: That’s another issue, Officers shouldn’t suffer 10 years working on one issue also doesn’t look nice.

Bhushan: Why have they not finished investigation in 10 years

Bench- File affidavit on Stage of different investigation

ASG: We’ll file status report

Bench- Mr Bhushan submits it’s been 10 years but investigation isn’t complete in many cases. He’s prayed court to direct Govt to indicate stages of investigation in different cases. We direct Central government to file affidavit.
