Rolls Royce and Hal Sign Deal to Manufacture Made-in-India "Adour Engine" Parts

Though the pandemic has had a significant impact on India's economy, signs of economic recovery are already visible, and this recent development can be added to India's storey of strong economic recovery.

Rolls-Royce, the world's leading British aerospace company, and HAL announced a deal on Tuesday ( September 21,2021), to manufacture "Adour Engine" parts for their country's fifth-generation fighter aircraft programme, known as AMCA (Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft), as part of India's 'Make in India' initiative.

Mr. B Krishna Kumar, HAL's Executive Director (Engine & IMGT), and Mr. Abhishek Singh, Rolls-Senior Royce's Vice President – Defence, India and South East Asia, signed the agreement.

The manufactured Adour engine parts will support Rolls-international Royce's defence customer base, and variants of the Adour engine power the Indian Air Force's (IAF) Jaguar fighters as well as its fleet of Hawk advanced jet trainers (AJT).

Furthermore, Rolls-Royce now intends to strengthen the Adour engine ecosystem in India by leveraging HAL's existing manufacturing and support capabilities for the Jet engines. This collaboration cements India's position as a key player in the global supply chain for Adour engine parts.

“With over 30 years of experience supporting repair and maintenance services for Adour engines in India, HAL has the capability and capacity to support a large defence customer base,” said Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), R Madhavan while adding, "This is the Adour Global Supply chain's first order for spare parts.
