After facing an acute shortage of medical oxygen due to a tremendous surge in the covid 19 cases throughout the country, the Defense Ministry has come up with the solution and has decided to airlift 23 mobile oxygen generation plants.

Sources tell us that each plant will have the capacity and capability to generate 40 litres of oxygen per minute and 2,400 litres per hour.

The Defense Minister has decided to extend 238 short service commissioned doctors in the Armed Forces Medical Service (AFMS) till 31st December, to sustain and aid until the current situation calms down a little.

Regarding the procurement of oxygen generation plants from Germany, principal spokesperson of the defence ministry, A. Bharat Bhushan Babu said that they will be available in the AFMS hospitals treating covid-19 patients.

This decision was a result of the move by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. He announced granting emergency financial powers to the three services and other defense agencies to make necessary procurement to strengthen the medical infrastructure. 

“Oxygen plants that will be airlifted from Germany will be made available to the Covid-19 patients in the AFMS hospitals” Babu stated.

The plants will be reaching here, in one weeks’ time. The IAF has been notified and has been asked to make the necessary preparations. The oxygen plants will be airlifted as soon as the official paper work is completed. 

The plants are advantageous cause they are easily portable, babu says.
