The High Court of Delhi today (January 20, 2020) denied the plea of the Enforcement Directorate seeking cancellation of Robert Vadra and his friend Manoj Arora’s anticipatory bail in an alleged money-laundering case. An anticipatory bail was granted to both of them by the trial court on April 1, 2019 asking them to deposit a personal bond of Rs. 5 lakhs each and a surety of the same amount. The case is involves money laundering on behalf of the accused while purchasing a property in London.

Advocate DP Singh while representing the ED, said that the anticipatory bail is hampering the process of investigation of the case. He also claimed that while issuing anticipatory bail, the trial court ignored some material facts.

He also told the court that while interrogating Vadra, he showed a very “evasive and non-cooperative” behaviour. ED also found a ‘money chain that directly links to him.’

The ED today also arrested CC Thampi of Holiday Group, a ‘close aide’ Robert Vadra, for securing agrarian land by purportedly evading laws concerning Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (FEMA).
