17-year-old Navi Mumbai girl who filed a case of molestation against the top police officer is missing

NAVI MUMBAI: A teenager from the Raigad district, who had filed a case last year for molesting her against the Deputy Inspector General of Police in June last year. She left her home in the Taloja to "commit suicide because of the "pressure" from the Police Officer.

"The teenage girl’s brother approached the police claiming that his sister had left behind a note saying that she is going to kill herself due to pressure from the DIG," a police officer said quoting the complaint.

The brother said that all members of the family slept in the living room while he was in the bedroom and his sister was preparing for her exams. His father woke up around 3:30 a.m. saying that his sister was not at home. The watchman told the family that he did not see the girl leaving the building. After looking for her in the neighborhood, they found a three-page letter in her bedroom.

She apologized in the letter, written in English to her parents and elder brother for the  “insults” they had to endure because of her. “ Please don’t try to find me. I will be coming under a train as I do not want to live this life. Learn to live without me. I am sorry” she wrote adding,” Love you all and miss you all. I blame (the) DIG for my suicide. Please forgive me!”

Police have registered a case under section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Sexual Offenses Against Child Protection Act (POCSO) without naming the officer who was her father's friend.

The DIG has been untraceable since 26 December, when the FIR was lodged under the Indian Penal Code for Molestation and Criminal Intimation  and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.

On January 2, at the Panvel session court scheduled for January 9, 2020, the DIG had filed for an anticipatory bail.
