The Supreme Court put an end to decades-old dispute over the title of Ayodhya. After recognizing it as a legitimate legal entity, it gave the deity Ram Lalla the title to the entire 2.77-acre disputed property in Ayodhya.

In a unanimous verdict, a five-judge constitutional bench declared that the disputed property will be administered in the name of Lord Ram by a temple trust which is to be formed by the Central Government within three months under the provisions of the Acquisition of Certain Area under the Ayodha Act 1993.The trust will be responsible for managing the Ram temple site, constructing, maintaining and managing it. The court ordered the State and Center to act in consultation with each other in order to comply with the court's orders and to formulate and maintain the trust.

It also gave a separate ordered that 5 acres of land be granted to the Sunni Waqf Board in Ayodhya to build a mosque “either by the Central Government out of the acquired land or by the Government of Uttar Pradesh within the city of Ayodhya. This exercise, and the consequent transfer of the land to the Sunni Central Waqf Board, shall be carried out simultaneously with the handing over of the disputed site consisting of the inner and outer courtyards.
