Lois Liberman

Lois Liberman is a seasoned litigator and trial attorney with extensive experience advising clients in all aspects of matrimonial and family law. She has made guest appearances on “The Today Show,” “Good Morning America,” “Good Day New York,” “Extra,” and “Entertainment Tonight.” She is frequently consulted to comment on family law matters pertaining to prominent and high-net-worth people and appears often in the celebrity press including People magazine, The Huffington Post, eonlinenews.com, MTV.com, Businessinsider.com, NBCNews.com, FoxNews.com, The NY Post and More magazine.

Lois is a trusted advisor to high-profile and high-net-worth clients on matters including pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements; custody litigation; highly complex assets, financial evaluations, and discovery; paternity cases; international and cross-border matrimonial issues; and same-sex divorce agreements. Among her pioneering accomplishments, Lois represented a litigant in the first reported same-sex divorce case in New York State, C.M. vs. C.C.

Lois is the former chair of Blank Rome’s Matrimonial & Family Law practice group, one of the largest in the country. Dr. Kathryn Smerling is a leading family therapy professional and parent coordinator, specializing in high-conflict couples. She provides individual adult therapy, as well as comprehensive couples and family therapy.

With a Ph.D. from Fordham University and a Masters from Cornell University, Dr. Smerling began her career as an early childhood educator. She created a curriculum for the State of New Mexico for preschoolers called Instep, and wrote over forty booklets on Early Childhood Development for Random House, which were used for migrant workers in Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico, and California.

After completing her Ph.D., Dr. Smerling earned her M.S.W. from New York University. She continued her studies with the Extern Program at The Ackerman Institute for the Family, and a psychoanalytic program at the National Institute for Psychotherapies (NIP). She also has certificates in Divorce Mediation, Divorce Collaboration, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Relational Therapy.

Dr. Smerling serves as a Clinical Instructor at Mount Sinai in the Department of OBGYN and on the Dean's Council at the NYU School of Social Work.
