Report on Supply Chain Compliance 3, no. 11 (May 28, 2020)

A free report^[1] details some of the developments within the electronics industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the report,

The pandemic is causing severe problems across all sectors and markets, with the electronics industry suffering its own turmoil. International electronics trade association IPC – which develops and publishes industry standards – recently found that manufacturers in the sector are anticipating a five-week product shipment delay from suppliers, at the very least. Shipping delays from China in particular are already having a negative impact.

Several cases are highlighted, including regulations regarding the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) from around the world and insight into the European Union’s RoHS regulation and how it has become a global reference point.

“It is too early to tell, for example, if shipment delays pose a risk to chemical and material reporting requirements in many jurisdictions,” the report states. “What we can be sure of, is that, despite the pandemic, the momentum of regulatory activity covering electronics and electricals—something that has increased substantially over the last decade—will continue.”
