PRESENTER PROFILE:

Avani is an Advocate in the Supreme Court of India, and founding partner of ‘Avani Bansal Chambers‘ (ABC). She runs ‘Hamara Kanoon’, a legal awareness project which explains important laws in simple Hindi in a video format on YouTube.

Avani has stellar academic records winning eight gold medals at Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur, India, where she pursued B.A. LL.B. (Honors). Thereafter she pursued BCL and M.Phil in Law from University of Oxford (UK), and LL.M. from Harvard Law School (USA).

While at Oxford, she was the President of Oxford Lawyers Without Borders, Associate Editor of the Oxford University Commonwealth Law Journal and was the first law student to be ‘highly commended’ as part of the Vice Chancellor’s Civic Award scheme for her pro-bono work and community caring. She was a recipient of scholarship for an Academic Exchange Programme to Max Plank Institute for Comparative and International Private Law (Hamburg, Germany) and has interned with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Geneva amongst others. At Harvard, Avani was the Co-President of her LL.M. class, Vice-President (Speaker Series) of Harvard India Student Group (HISG) and LL.M. Representative with South Asian Law Students Association. She received the Dean’s Award for Community Leadership at Harvard Law School.

Avani is passionate about access to justice, gender rights, pro-bono policy in India, constitutional law, environmental law and social change. She has delivered lectures around law schools in India and has been featured in the Week, Times of India, and in a short documentary on travelling amongst others. She loves to read and write in her spare time and has written several editorial pieces for Times of India. Link to Articles on TOI:
